Fun Family-friendly Bonding at The Robot Zoo

A chameleon can change its color and blend with its surroundings. A bat’s sonar system uses echolocation for hunting its prey at night. A housefly, with eyes made up of about 4,000 six-sided lenses, can detect even the slightest movement in all directions.

These are just some of the animals that children can not only learn more about, but actually experience firsthand at The Robot Zoo. A traveling exhibit that has already toured science and natural history museums and zoos in Europe, North America and other venues across the globe, The Robot Zoo is now in the Philippines for just a limited time. It is featured as a walk-in gallery housed in the Science Discovery Center located at the SM Mall of Asia.

The Robot Zoo features larger-than-life animated animal robots that reveal mechanisms that simulate the body parts of their real-life counterparts. That’s a unique treat that’s sure to bring fun and excitement for kids and families to enjoy.

Children of all ages can have fun learning how the inner workings of some of Earth’s most awesome creatures enable them to do astonishing feats. As seen in each of the eight animals found in the Robot Body Shop, robotic parts like pistons simulate the animals’ muscles, filtering pipes for their intestines, computers for their brains, and many more machineries that, upon animation, imitates their real-life behavior.

The critters and beasts featured in the exhibit include a giant squid with 18-foot tentacles, a house fly with a 10-foot wingspan, and a giraffe whose head and neck alone stretch 9-feet tall. Also included are a platypus, a bat, a grasshopper, a chameleon, and more. The Robot Zoo also features interactive multi-sensory activity stations apart from the animal constructs that visitors can freely move and manipulate—features that are sure to give the young and the young-at-heart hands-on thrills and entertainment.

Developed by Evergreen Exhibits and based on the book “The Robot Zoo,” conceived, edited and designed by Marshall Editions of London, England, the exhibit reveals the fascinating biomechanics of animals through larger-than-life robots that feature cutaways which expose the animals’ mechanical insides. The Robot Zoo is also presented by Nickelodeon, as part of their mission to foster playful and engaging learning experiences that develop a child’s vital skills by bringing to life an exciting and interactive world that's as bold, colorful, and imaginative as their shows.

“The Robot Zoo presents families with the perfect venue to have quality bonding moments,” shares Arturo Carballo, Senior Vice President of the Science Discovery Center. It gives families a unique learning experience that doubles as a fun day of scientific discovery and excitement. The Robot Zoo gives families interactive science fun while celebrating love for learning and bonding over witnessing how the magic of nature comes to life in the form of the marvelous robot animals featured in the exhibit.”
